Prometheus Viral Campaign Begins With TED Talk

Now that the awards season is finished and all the serious business is done, it’s time to get on with the fun stuff. And 2012 is jam-packed with highly-anticipated movies. Now only does the superhero movie go supernova with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, THE AVENGERS and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, but – and perhaps most excitingly of all – Ridley Scott returns to the world of ALIEN with the mysterious PROMETHEUS.

Despite a plethora of rumours, little is known about the film so far. However, way ahead of its 1st June release, here is the beginning of the viral campaign, sure to whet fanboys’ appetites and start all kinds of speculation. The first installment is a 2023 TED Talk featuring Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), in which he discusses not only the Prometheus legend, but the advancements made by civilization, climaxing with cybernetics.

Fans of the ALIEN franchise will spot the references easily. Weyland is undoubtedly the big cheese over at Weyland Industries, the famed superpower from ALIENS. And the cybernetics which Weyland discusses refer to various synthetic lifeforms seen in the films, such as Ash and Bishop, from ALIEN and ALIENS respectively. and let’s not forget that Michael Fassbender is rumoured to play a cyborg in the upcoming film

For many, the ALIEN films decreased in quality, a problem not helped by the poor ALIEN VS PREDATOR films. However, it’s safe to assume that Scott will return the franchise to its former glory. If this short promo is anything to go by, we’re in for a real treat…

Check out the video below.

PROMETHEUS stars Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Patrick Wilson, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, and Michael Fassbender. It arrives in cinemas 1st June.
