Official 65th Anniversary Poster For Cannes Festival Celebrates Monroe

The exciting Cannes Film Festival have released details that the legendary Marilyn Monroe has been chosen as their ‘icon’ for the celebrations of the 65th Anniversary, they also have this official announcement on proceedings:

“Fifty years after her death, Marilyn is still a major figure in world cinema, an eternal icon, whose grace, mystery and power of seduction remain resolutely contemporary. Each of her screen appearances sparks the imagination. The festival poster captures Marilyn by surprise in an intimate moment where myth meets reality — a moving tribute to the anniversary of her passing, which coincides with the festival anniversary. She enchants us with this promising gesture: a seductively blown kiss. The festival is a temple of glamour and Marilyn is its perfect incarnation. Their coming together symbolises the ideal of simplicity and elegance.”

The poster features her blowing out candles, which – for some – will recollect the iconic image of her singing Happy Birthday in 1962 to President JFK. The hugely respected festival runs from May 16-27 this year and is always an interesting insight into the film world and it’s continuing development. Visit their site here and have a gander at that poster:
