Disney Stops Trying And Digs Up 30-Year-Old Idea

Quick! Name an 80s arcade game character with enough charm, intrigue and richness to headline a TV show. If you went for Pac Man, then you’re on the same page as Disney XD, which is developing a new show based around the yellow 5/6ths of a circle. Pac Man, who probably falls between the space invaders from Space Invaders and Donkey Kong in terms of character depth, has been a TV star before, appearing on ABC from 1982 through to 1983. Thirty years later, then, seems like a perfect time to resurrect the project.

In a statement chock full of nonsense, hyperbole and exaggeration, executive producer Avi Arad claims ‘Pac-Man is one of the world’s greatest icons’. In fact, Arad and Disney are so sure of the continued relevance of a yellow sphere that the show has been dubbed “PAC-MAN: THE ADVENTURE BEGINS”, perhaps suggesting that this is merely some kind of prequel season, to be followed up one the adventure has truly begun. Clearly this is the kind of story that will only keep unfolding, so stay tuned to find out whether, for example, those ghosts will make an appearance, or the girl Pac Man, or whatever else Pac Man does.
