Jason Segel Definitely NOT Back For The Muppets 2

We reported back last week that Disney were pressing ahead with a sequel to this year’s THE MUPPETS, possibly due to it’s huge $153 million box-office haul from a budget of just $45 million, and massive critical reception, and we stated that it was ‘in doubt’ that its star and co-writer Jason Segel wouldn’t be back to reprise his role in said new film. Well, now that news has been confirmed by Jason himself over the weekend. The funnyman told Collider:

“The Muppets 2,” not as a writer or actor. “My goal was to bring the Muppets back and I did that, leaving them in very good hands, my writing partner and James Bobin the director,” he explained. “All I wanted to do was to set the stage for them to do whatever they wanted. I did what I set out to do, and now I wanna pursue more human-related projects. I’m sure I’ll return in some capacity here and there, but that was half a decade of my life. Five years of hard work. I’m ready for a little puppet break.”

I thought that Segel was bloody awesome in the movie, so its sad news for me personally, but you have to have faith in Stoller and Bobin after they also contributed to a blinder of a first movie…
