Sin City 2 Is Finally On The Way!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that’s right: the long-awaited and seemingly infinitely delayed sequel to SIN CITY will finally start filming this year.

Robert Rodriguez, who co-directed the original comic book adaptation in 2005 with Quentin Tarantino and Frank Miller, turned up to the South by Southwest Interactive Festival yesterday to announce various new projects. These included the reveals that SIN CITY 2 and MACHETE KILLS, a sequel to Rodriguez’s 2010 Danny Trejo-starrer MACHETE, will begin filming this year.

The latter will start production in April, with SIN CITY 2 following over the summer. While the director didn’t mention whether the cast of either original film would be reprised for their sequels, he did say the casting would be ‘of the same calibre and eclecticism’. So here’s hoping.

Rodriguez also announced another new project in the form of Quickdraw Animation. The studio will focus on CG-animated feature films, starting with the long-planned (anyone else noticing a theme here?) HEAVY METAL film, which has a finished script. He also mentioned a family film that’s currently in the works, but refused to give away the title, saying that as with SPY KIDS, it would ruin the whole concept of the movie.

The first SIN CITY film was fantastic – a real cult classic – with a phenomenal style. We’ve waited seven years for a sequel – let’s just hope, with this announcement, that we won’t be waiting too much longer…
