It appears that all systems are go for the sequel to the British horror film THE WOMAN IN BLACK.
Simon Oakes (vice-chairman of Exclusive Media and president and CEO of Hammer Films) and Nigel Sinclair (co-chairman of Exclusive Media) have both confirmed that THE WOMAN IN BLACK is getting a sequel under the name THE WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGELS OF DEATH, written by Susan Hill who penned the original.
THE WOMAN IN BLACK became a huge success after its release last month, making over £20 million ($33 million) in the UK alone. It has since been heralded as the best British horror film in the last 20 years!
The scary sequel is set 40 years after the first. The creepy, haunted Eel Marsh House still stands and a new couple have the privilege of living in it – we’ll have to wait and see what they encounter.
The film has also been written by Hill, adapted to a screenplay by Jon Crocker and will be produced by the same team who created the first part.
Oakes, whose company (Exclusive Media) are co-producers on the project, has said ‘We are proud and honoured to be working with Susan again on THE WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGELS OF DEATH, a wonderful new tale every bit as atmospheric and terrifying as its predecessor.’ Sinclair added, ‘It’s thrilling to be able to work with someone of Susan’s literary calibre on such a fascinating project. It’s also fantastic to have Jon on board again to help bring this new story to life on the big screen.’
With the success of the first one, I’m not surprised they’re going ahead with this. However, it’ll be interesting to see who they cast and whether they can pull off what the first one achieved so greatly.
THE WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGELS OF DEATH is currently in pre-production.
