He originally sought THE HUNGER GAMES himself, after his daughter passed her favourite novel on to him. He even took a significant pay cut in order to adapt the franchise opener, now after agreeing to return for sequel CATCHING FIRE, Gary Ross has officially exited the record-setting survival-thriller series from author Suzanne Collins.
Whispers and rumours have been heard all week, some regarding Ross’ demand for a major salary rise, others suggesting Ross never really wanted to return, preferring to mix genres like he has done all his career. Either way, the director and Lionsgate have parted company, and another director is being sought for an August/September shoot. However, stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will still return.
