Here’s our first look at Christopher Walken and Al Pacino in their new flick, STAND UP GUYS.
The legendary duo play a couple of ageing hitmen who get together for one last night on the tiles before a final assignment. But could that assignment be for one to kill the other?
Walken and Pacino are not only two of the most revered and iconic movie stars in history, they’re also two of the most enjoyable impersonations to do. Here’s a beginners guide…
To start off with the basic Pacino, cough. Just cough, but a sustained one. And as you do, make this sound; ‘Wah.’ Go on. Merely cough then say ‘Wah.’ That, right there, is your first Al Pacino impression. Now take the sound you just made, and run with it. Say what ever you want, using the sound you just produced. The louder the better. Boom, Pacino.
To do Walken, you must begin every phrase with the words, ‘You know.’ But pronounce it as ‘Ya NA-ow.’ And emphasise the NA. The key to a good Walken is bizarre em-PHA-sis in odd PLA-ces. Also…. The pause. Ya gotta DO… the pause… and pronouce it as ‘Paw-wahs.’
That should get you going.
STAND UP GUYS is written by Noah Haidle in what will be his feature film debut. It is directed by Fisher Stevens, who co-produced Oscar winning documentary THE COVE (2009) and will be co-starring alongside Miley Cyrus in LOL later this year. Yes, really.
The movie stars equally respected, if not as well known, veteran Alan Arkin (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE – 2006, GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS – 1992 with Pacino), and will hit theatres in 2013. By then, of course, we will all have mastered those impressions. Ya NA-ow… its TRUE!
Here they are, and we’re particularly glad to see Al in shouty mode.
John is a gentleman, a scholar, he’s an acrobat. He is one half of the comedy duo Good Ol’ JR, and considers himself a comedy writer/performer. This view has been questioned by others. He graduated with First Class Honours in Media Arts/Film & TV, a fact he will remain smug about long after everyone has stopped caring. He enjoys movies, theatre, live comedy and writing with the JR member and hetero life partner Ryan. Some of their sketches can be seen on YouTube and YOU can take their total hits to way over 17!
