Discover The ‘Hysteria’ Around Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy

The official trailer for Sony Pictures Classics’ upcoming Victorian romantic comedy HYSTERIA has finally been released.

The film revolves around the true story of how young doctor Mortimer Granville created the world’s first vibrator – all in the name of science, obviously. Granville used the ‘device’ to help treat women with ‘hysteria’, which Gyllenhaal quotes in the film could be anything “from insomnia to toothache!”

Hugh Dancy stars as Dr Granville, accompanied by Maggie Gyllenhaal (Charlotte Dalrymple), Felicity Jones (Emily Dalrymple), Jonathan Pryce (Dr Robert Dalrymple) and Rupert Everett (Lord Edmund St. John-Smythe).

Directed by Tanya Wexler and written by Jonah Lisa Dyer and Stephen Dyer, the trailer definitely shows how they’ve worked comedy into something that – from the Victorian era – was taken very seriously. This is sure to be a hit with film critics, due to its brilliant casting and quick wit.

HYSTERIA, directed by Tanya Wexler, was premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. It is due for a limited release from 18th May, 2012.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
