Check out the trailer for American documentary film BULLY, which has already been making an impact in its native country.
BULLY focuses on the lives of five families affected by the impact of bullying. These families vary from parents who have lost children to suicide from bullying to a woman who is waiting to find out the punishment for her daughter, who brought a gun onto her school bus. The trailer shows how Lee Hirsch, the director, filmed in many different locations including principle offices, homes, school halls, classrooms and the backs of school buses – many different places where bullying may occur or affect someone’s life.
Distributed by The Weinstein Company, the film recently made headlines in America in regards to the rating given by the MPAA. BULLY was originally given an R rating, meaning many young teenagers legally wouldn’t be able to see the film and it wouldn’t be able to be shown in middle schools or high schools. However, at the beginning of April The Weinstein Company agreed to delete three of the films six profanities and the MPAA lowered the rating to a PG-13, so children can view it without the consent of an adult.
The trailer shows just how much of an emotional impact bullying can make to any member of a family and how devastating this impact can be. Although there is no clear UK release date, I believe this should be shown here just to make people aware of what others may be going through.
BULLY, directed by Lee Hirsch, was released in America on 13th April, 2012 and is due for release at the Tribeca Film Festival on 23rd April, 2012.
Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging.
Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
