Man-of-the-moment and SHERLOCK star Benedict Cumberbatch has been talking a little about his role in STAR TREK 2 but not enough to giveaway anything too specific but we’re sure they’re all sworn to secrecy anyway. He also mentions, just a little, his love for J.J. Abrams work. Blog Zap2it were lucky enough to get a little inside info and asked how it was all coming along and from this, we think he’s having the time of his life:
“It’s very, very long hours, but it’s an incredible job. It’s phenomenal. J.J. brings it. It’s a very exciting set to be on. He’s very imaginative. He’s involved in the details, the acting and all the wonderful ideas he has for capturing stories in a fresh and imaginative way.” Cumberbatch also didn’t let up on his praise for J.J. Abrams: “He’s a genuinely good human being, as well as being absurdly talented and popular. He’s just fantastically talented, just in payoffs and thrills and chills along the way.”
When asked about his character more specifically, he only gave away a little. Granted we had previously seen those green-screen shots of him fighting Zachary Quinto’s Spock but could he reveal anymore?
“I’ve gone up two suit sizes. The character I’m playing, he’s strong, I can say that much. I’ve changed my physique a bit, so that requires eating like a foie gras goose, well beyond your appetite, And, providing I don’t feel too ill, I then work out two hours a day with a phenomenal trainer. It’s the L.A. way.”
On another note, Chris ‘Captain Kirk’ Pine was also pushed recently by Access Hollywood on his role in Trek 2, he’s also playing his cards close to his chest with this statement:
“Of course I’m gonna tell you I think it’s gonna be better,” He laughs: “You pick up the characters from where they left off, and the development of the characters, I think, is just as exciting as the first one… And it’s relentless. I think that’s the best adjective I can use.”
So, there we have it for the moment! STAR TREK 2 is directed by J.J. Abrams and written by Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof and Roberto Orci. It also stars Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Noel Clarke and Alice Eve and is due for release May 17th 2013.
