Here are two fantastic high resolution images from Disney/Pixar’s upcoming BRAVE.
Here we see Merida (Kelly MacDonald) sparring with her father King Fergus (Billy Connolly) while her mother Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson) watches on. We also get a glimpse at another scene, a striking image which appears to show a bear being captured while Merida… Well, I don’t know what she’s doing but she looks badass. Pixar have done a great job keeping the significance of the bear out of their promotional material, but we have a hunch it will have a strong part to play in the narrative. These shots also show us that Pixar’s first heroine is equally adept with a sword as she is with a bow (click for extremely big).
Here be synopsis:
Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave,” a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.
BRAVE is written by Irene Mecchi (HERCULES, THE LION KING) and Brenda Chapman who also co-directs with Mark Andrews.
It features the voice talents of Kelly MacDonald, Billy Connolly, Craig Ferguson, Kevin McKidd as well as Harry Potter alumni Emma Thompson, Robbie Coltrane and Julie Walters. BRAVE will hit cinemas on the 22nd of June in 2D and 3D.
