Sharlto Copley To Join Jolie On ‘Maleficent’

Only a few days ago, we confirmed that DISTRICT 9 lead Sharlto Copley was set to make life hell for Josh Brolin’s character, in Spike Lee’s remake of Chan-wook Park’s dark Korean masterpiece OLDBOY. Brolin has since confirmed the film, co-starring Elizabeth Olsen, will shoot in October. Our article also stated the South African will headline gruesome thriller OPEN GRAVE, the story of a man who wakes up to find himself surrounded by decomposing corpses and slowly attempts to piece together his grisly predicament.

Now it also appears Copley is in talks for the male lead of ‘King Stefan’ in the live-action re-telling of the SLEEPING BEAUTY fairytale, albeit told from the villains perspective. MALEFICENT was a project specifically written for Angelina Jolie to star as Princess Aurora’s evil nemesis. Copley’s role was originally rumoured for Jude Law, but is now expected to feature THE A-TEAM actor alongside Jolie and SUPER 8’s Elle Fanning, who is set for the role of the snoozing royal. Visual effects mastermind Robert Stromberg makes his directorial début.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
