Bane Speaks – Tom Hardy On ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

“When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die.” Well, it’s not the nicest thing to say but Bane gives this promise to Bruce Wayne in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES trailer; fortunately Tom Hardy the British actor portraying Bane is a bit nicer. He’s been talking to Entertainment Weekly in the US of A and had some interesting things to say:

How does he feel about the Mask?

“I think he (Director Christopher Nolan) worried it would be something I might not consider because wearing a mask might damage my career or something. He thought I’d be worried that the audience couldn’t see my beautiful face…Like I care. It’s Chris Nolan! I would wear a paper bag over my head for that man.”

His thoughts on ‘That’ voice:

“There were two doors we could walk through…a very straightforward villain or we could go through this very quirky door, which is totally justified by the text…The audience mustn’t be too concerned about the mumbly voice… I think you’ll be able to tune to its setting.”

Comparisons between The Joker and Bane:

“The Joker didn’t care—he just wanted to see the world burn, and he was a master of chaos and destruction…There is a very meticulous and calculated way about Bane…He is also a physical threat to Batman. There is nothing vague about Bane. No jokes. He’s a very clean, clear villain.”

…sorry I was just mopping the saliva off the keyboard, this interview has got us hyped here at THN headquarters and we cannot wait for July 20th.

So Hardy’s had his say, we’ve had our say, but what do you reckon? Given the fun-filled superhero extravaganza that is MARVELS AVENGERS ASSEMBLE how do you feel about the much darker, tonally and story-wise, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES let us know?

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is directed by Christopher Nolan and stars Tom Hardy along with Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Anne Hathaway and crawls out its cave July 20th.
