Go On: Punchy Pilot Clips From Matthew Perry’s New Project

Even after eight years, some of us still can’t help but think of him as Chandler from FRIENDS, but Perry can be seen below in two clips from the pilot episode of his new comedy, NBC’s GO ON, as well as being interviewed. Since FRIENDS, Perry has appeared in a number of popular television programmes, including SCRUBS and THE WEST WING (where he first joined forces with screenwriter, Aaron Sorkin; the master of pithy dialogue). Several mediocre films followed, including NUMB and 17 AGAIN, but Perry’s strongest roles always appear to come to fruition on the small screen. Once again joining forces with Sorkin, Perry impressed as the co-star of STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP, and then – to a slightly lesser extent – as the star of MR SUNSHINE (which he co-created), but alas, both were cancelled after just one season. We at THN hope it will be a case of third time lucky for Perry, as he has oodles of potential, and has more than paid his dues over the years.

The story focuses on sportscaster, Ryan King (Perry), as he reluctantly attends mandatory grief councelling sessions – following the death of his wife – in order for him to be allowed back to work. The show is created by Scott Silveri, who worked closely with Perry as a staff writer on FRIENDS, and co-stars Tonita Castro (SOMETHING NEW), Sarah Baker (IN GAYLE WE TRUST), and Laura Benanti (AS BLOOD RUNS DEEP).

GO ON is due to air its pilot episode in autumn in the US and, although no details for a UK run have been divulged as yet, we shall endeavour to inform you as soon as that changes.

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.
