If you were a fan of the 2010 film SUBMARINE, then this will be music to your ears. Actor-turned-director and all-round funny guy Richard Ayoade begins shooting his new project THE DOUBLE from next week, according to reports.
These reports also confirm that Yasmin Paige (who starred as Jordana Bevan in SUBMARINE) will feature in Ayoade’s new film – a retelling of Dostoyevsky’s age-old tale of the doppelganger. Jesse Eisenberg (THE SOCIAL NETWORK, ZOMBIELAND) will play a clerk who discovers his ‘twin’ working in his office. He sets out to expose the man, only leading himself into madness. Mia Wasikowska (ALICE IN WONDERLAND, JANE EYRE) and Craig Roberts (JANE EYRE, SUBMARINE) have also signed onto the project, rounding out the impressive cast list. Roberts also starred alongside Paige in Ayoade’s first project, so it’ll be good to see them work together again.
Ayoade is probably better known as Maurice Moss in THE IT CROWD and his comedy skills were what attracted me to SUBMARINE in the first place. He is currently starring in THE WATCH alongside Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill, so we definitely know that he has comedy expertise. As a fan of SUBMARINE it’ll be interesting to see what he can achieve this time around.
THE DOUBLE, directed by Richard Ayoade, starts filming from next week.
