Community Creator Has New Adult Swim Show

COMMUNITY creator and Chevy Chase agitator Dan Harmon is planning for his future with a new animated show for Adult Swim, titled RICK & MORTY. Though early details are flimsy at best, so far we know that the show follows an inventor and his dimwitted grandson, no doubt getting up to endless Adult Swim-style wacky hi jinx. Though Harmon’s beloved but under performing COMMUNITY has been renewed for a fourth (shortened, but with the potential to be un-shortened) season, it could well be its final outing, for reasons including but not limited to: the aforementioned conflicts with Chevy Chase, the fact that the characters will be graduating from the central community college soon, its low viewing figure,s and the persistent rumour that Harmon himself will not be returning as show runner. As a creative force that one might reasonably call uncompromising, Adult Swim may be a better home for Harmon than NBC, as it was for COMMUNITY consultant and Star-Burns Dino Stamatopolous.

Also in the upcoming Adult Swim rota is an animated HAROLD & KUMAR series, in a textbook example of a network knowing its audience. With John Cho and Kal Penn returning to voice the titular characters, producers will be hoping that the name recognition will turn big screen success into small screen success, a technique that failed so badly with Fox’s NAPOLEON DYNAMITE.
