Official Release Date And Poster For Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For

Dimension Films have confirmed the release date for SIN CITY 2. The sequel, entitled A DAME TO KILL FOR will blast onto screens on the 4th of October, 2013.

Earlier this week we showed you a teaser poster which popped up online, not knowing whether it was official. We can now also confirm that the Noir inspired image is indeed legit. Robert Rodriguez will reunite with the author and ‘co-director’ of the first movie, Frank Miller. Only Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba have confirmed to return, as man-meat Marv and stripper/sexual abuse-victim Nancy respectively. That’s your lot for now, but the studio says ‘the remaining cast will be announced shortly with some huge names expected.’ Check out the brief official synopsis;

‘In the dark bowels of Sin City, Dwight plans to have his vengeance against the woman who betrayed him, Ava Lord, while Nancy is trying to cope with Hartigan’s death.’

This would imply Clive Owen is set to return, and as A DAME TO KLL FOR is set before Dwight gets his new face, there is a good chance he will be played by two actors. When rumours of the sequel started in 2006, Rachel Weisz was expected to play Ava Lord, so who knows if she is still on Rodriguez’s radar. However, Weisz being an ardent feminist and Miller being (arguably) one of the more misogynistic arseholes in Hollywood, this would be a surprising collaboration. SIN CITY was notorious for its appalling representation of women, all of whom were strippers, prostitutes or victims. The character of Ava is equally demonstrative of Miller’s apparent dislike of women, and frankly, Weisz is above it. But with her very serious recent output, she may want to indulge in some big, silly action adventure. Even if it is one that hates women.

On an unrelated note, don’t you think Frank Miller looks like Mickey Pearce from Only Fool and Horses?

Here’s that poster again, which does look pretty cool.

Filming starts this summer and SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR will be released in 3D on the 4th of October, 2013.
