Clooney To Direct Cuban-Based Political Drama

We already know that George Clooney is somewhat of a political activist (remember this?) and likes to use his knowledge and experience in this work (he directed and starred in 2011’s THE IDES OF MARCH). Reports suggest that he is to take on the project THE YANKEE COMANDANTE, inspired by an article reporting on political unrest in 1950s Cuba.

Focus Features is to back the film, which will depict the travels and trouble activist William Alexander Morgan gets into after being one of only two foreigners to be honoured with the title Comandante (the other was the world-famous Che Guevara). Morgan’s actions of helping Cuban rebels overthrow the political power even caught the attention of US FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Clooney is said to be working with partner Grant Heslov and the two of them will work together under their production company Smokehouse.

This seems to be right up Clooney’s street and considering the nomination success of THE IDES OF MARCH, THE YANKEE COMANDANTE may well follow it.

THE YANKEE COMANDANTE, directed by George Clooney, is in (very) early pre-production.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
