Be Unkind And Don’t Rewind: V/H/S Red Band Trailer Is Terrifying

Is it safe to come out now? Last week we revealed a poster for the found-footage anthology horror V/H/S, and now we have a trailer. The trailer further serves up the plot: of a group of burglars are sent out to steal one specific video, but not knowing which video it is they need, the group decide to watch through the tapes, each of which contains a separate horror story.

The trailer is incredibly unsettling with its quick cuts and violent imagery. As always with found footage, the action forces you to pay extra attention to try and decipher what’s going on, making you even more involved in the scares. The directors seem to have gone for a wide range of stories. Highlights include a haunted house where the doors not only move, but change their physical properties. A (what I assume is a) vampire story where a man is chased before being carried into the air, which reminded me how much I miss flying vampires. Hand prints appearing, an arm coming out of the ground. It’s all here and it’s all brilliant stuff. I saw THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (1999) 11 times at the cinema, and this film has me just as insanely excited.

V/H/S will be released On Demand on August 31st in the US with a theatrical release to follow on 5th October, with no word yet on a UK release.

It is directed by Adam Wingard, Glenn McQuaid, Radio Silence, David Bruckner, Joe Swanberg, and Ti WestIt stars Joe Swanberg, Adam Wingard, Sophia Takal, Kate Lyn Sheil, Calvin Reeder, and Lane Hughes.
