R.I.P Richard Lynch (1936-2012)

The multi-talented and prolific actor, Richard Lynch, who is perhaps best known for his portrayal of many starkly villainous characters during his forty-year career, has died at the age of 76. A spokesperson for Lynch, Mike Baronas, said there was no Police investigation planned, after the actor’s body was found on Tuesday (19th June) by a friend, who had grown concerned when they hadn’t heard from him for a few days. He was found in his home in Palm Springs.

Some of his most memorable filmic work derived from the horror genre, and included appearances in GOD TOLD ME TO (1976) and HALLOWEEN (2007). He also lent his talent to some of televison’s most cherished shows over the years, including BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, THE A-TEAM, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, and SIX FEET UNDER. After permanently scarring his own face while high on LSD in 1967, Lynch began using his physical appearance to his advantage; often choosing the dark and twisted roles that frequently emanate from the horror and science fiction genres.

Lynch, whose final film appearance will be in Rob Zombie’s forthcoming THE LORDS OF SALEM, was a diverse and adaptable character. Not only did he complete a stint in the United States Marine Corps before taking up acting, but he could speak several languages fluently; namely Swahili, Russian, Spanish, German and Italian. Furthermore, his musical prowess enabled him to play the guitar, flute, piano and saxophone. He had a truly creative soul, that was rich in talent, and he will be sorely missed.

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.

A very sad loss for the horror movie genre and the cinema in general. He was a true talented Character star and an excellent dramatic actor and although he was always type-casting as the “Bad Guy” in many films, he could display his dramatic or comic abilities in any film. A very underrated player too.
He should be always remembered as one of the best actors of his generation. I will be miss you so much, maestro!

    Always,
    Agustin Ignacio
