Over recent years the quality of television in the US has been consistently brilliant. With the likes of HBO, SHOWTIME and AMC churning out shows that sometimes make it a crime to leave your living room (even for a cuppa). THE SOPRANOS, DEXTER and GAME OF THRONES are examples of shows that have and will go on to live long in the memory, well after they’re gone.
Perhaps the most prominent (and frankly the best) show currently on television is AMC’s BREAKING BAD, a show that first burst onto the scene in 2008. The hard-hitting drama from creator Vince Gilligan focuses on mild-mannered chemistry genius and teacher Walter White. After finding himself stricken with cancer, Walter decides to make a few extra bucks to ensure his family is looked after once he’s gone. His expertise sees him create the finest meth-amphetamine in the country, along with former pupil and drug-dealer Jesse (Aaron Paul).
The series has gone from strength to strength and each season continues to drop jaws, showcasing the talents of lead actor Bryan Cranston, which has to be seen to be believed. Cranston’s turn from meek father and husband to ruthless drug kingpin has been nothing short of astonishing.
THN has the brand new trailer for season 5, which will be the final season, although will be split into two 8 episode arcs over two years. BREAKING BAD will return to screens in the US 15th July. There is also a talk of a movie hitting the big-screen after all 16 episodes of the final season have aired. We can only hope and pray!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
