Ryan Reynolds Officially Confirmed For ‘Highlander’ Remake!

Last month, THN announced Ryan Reynolds was in the running to take the lead of Connor MacLeod in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s HIGHLANDER remake. The immortal Scottish swordsman was previously played by Christopher Lambert in Russell Mulcahy’s 1986 classic sci-fi as well as three sequels.

THN can now confirm that Reynolds will indeed take the role created by Gregory Widen. The actor who made his name with comedies like VAN WILDER and JUST FRIENDS, has created himself as something of action hero after impressing with roles in BURIED and SAFE HOUSE. With the unfortunate GREEN LANTERN and X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, I’ve always felt, much like Adam Sandler, he’s an actor that’s difficult not to like even with those dire efforts on his resume.

So with his confirmation as the sword-swinging immortal, the focus of the casting will now turn to that of Sean Connery’s mentor and the towering villain, The Kurgan (last played by the great Clancy Brown). Do you have any thoughts on who should take over?

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
