Jackie Chan To Return To Hollywood For New Action-Comedy

Like anyone, I love a good Jackie Chan action flick. More specifically, one that features him making mincemeat out of the usual thugs and henchmen, all the while making us laugh too. Classics like PROJECT A and POLICE STORY are particular favourites. Hell, even his end credit out-takes are unmissable.

Unfortunately, his Hollywood output has been rather dire and kid-friendly, which most of the time, has been no fault of the little martial-arts genius. The box-office haul from the RUSH HOUR films certainly showed Chan could make the transition to the Hollywood big league. Sadly, he was paired with the most… well, let’s not resort to  mentioning the man, as I simply despise him. Many perhaps have the same feeling considering (name deleted) hasn’t acted since RUSH HOUR 3 (2007), and before that RUSH HOUR 2 (2001) and would you believe it, before that RUSH HOUR (1998). And Brett Ratner wonders why we hate him so much.

Anyhoo, this brings me to the news that Jackie Chan will star and produce in the as yet untitled English-language film that’s based on one of his own original ideas. He has hired BACHELOR PARTY 2: THE LAST TEMPTATION’s (I shudder) Jay Longino to pen the script that will see Chan’s Chinese detective on the hunt for an American gambler.

My research has just unleashed the unsettling news that Chris Tucker will be back on the big-screen later this year in the SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK (see here), opposite the amazing cast of Bradley Cooper, Robert DeNiro, Jennifer Lawrence and Julia Stiles. Now, where did I put that noose for when RUSH HOUR 4 is announced?

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
