Being one of the most influential and well-known filmmakers in the business, it is rather sad to see Martin Scorsese stepping away from the element of his career that has been a constant: film. No, no, no, we don’t mean he’s packing it all in! We simply mean that Scorsese has bowed down to technology and is embracing digital.
Long time collaborator, friend and editor for Scorsese, Thelma Schoonmaker, has said that they feel as if they’ve lost the battle against films’ technological revolution – ‘I think Marty just feels it’s unfortunately over, and there’s been no bigger champion of film than him.’ She says he admits he enjoyed the warm tones of 2011’s HUGO (which was created in digital) but he’ll regret seeing his favourite format die a quiet death.
However, she did let slip some details about his upcoming project THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. ‘We start…in the second week of August…It’s about this man in the late 1990s who got people to start investing in much cheaper stocks. It was a big scam, and he went to jail.’ That man, Jordan Belfort (who now works as a motivational speaker), is to be played by Scorsese’s current muse, Leonardo DiCaprio. Accompanying him on set will be Jean Dujarin (THE ARTIST), Jonah Hill (MONEYBALL) and Kyle Chandler (FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS). A perfect cast for a perfect director.
THE WOLF OF WALL STREET is currently in pre-production.
