After Earth Synopsis Is Released

Despite the release of the awful THE LAST AIRBENDER, M. Night Shyamalan continues to get work and has now released a synopsis for his secretive AFTER EARTH. AFTER EARTH stars Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. Shyamalan needs a big star like Will Smith at this juncture in his career, due to the constant beating he receives from critics. He’s also done the smart thing of, finally, handing over complete writing duties to somebody else for the first time. I enjoy Shyamalan’s previous efforts such as THE SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE and SIGNS, but after that his scripts became muddled and confused.

Here’s the synopsis:

‘In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.’

AFTER EARTH is released 7th June 2013 and stars Will Smith, Jaden Smith, and Isabelle Fuhrman.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
