Action-Thriller ‘Motel’ Adds Crispin Glover

The weird but wonderful genius that is Crispin Glover has come on board the indie actioner MOTEL. The BACK TO THE FUTURE actor will join the likes of John Cusack and Robert De Niro in the film being directed by David Grovic. The plot centres on Cusack’s hitman (a similar role he played with comedic relish in the outstanding GROSS POINT BLANK), who finds himself in a backwater motel to carry out a job for De Niro’s mysterious mobster. There is no word just on what role Glover will take.

Glover’s career has shyed away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, preferring roles that take risks and working with film-makers and friends in projects he sees as interesting or challenging. He’s had notable roles in AT CLOSE RANGE, WILD AT HEART, WHAT’S EATING GILBERT GRAPE and of course his lovable George McFly in Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 time travel classic. He was, not surprisingly, the best thing about McG’s CHARLIE’S ANGELS double.

His lead role in the underrated remake of 70’s horror classic WILLARD in 2003 showcased his personality to perfection, with him possibly giving his finest role to date. The Glen Morgan-directed film was a disaster on its initial release, with Glover only cast days before shooting began – this after a number of actors dropped out last minute. However, WILLARD is gaining a cult audience in much the same way as the Bruce Davison-led original.

MOTEL will also co-star Dominic Purcell, Rebecca Da Costa, Kirk Jones and has a screenplay from actor James Russo (DONNIE BRASCO, DJANGO UNCHAINED).

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
