‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Struggles From Midnight Showings

So it’s out there now, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN after all of the hype and seemingly endless TV spots, trailers and clips we have the finished article in our local cinema; we’ve given it a watch (you can read our review here) and it has a not too shabby 7.7 rating on IMDB but how is it doing in the most important area…the money? Well, from 3,150 midnight screenings in America the film took $7.5 million now whilst that may read impressively it is not necessarily so being the same as SPIDER-MAN 3s opening, which was in May, but massively under THE AVENGERS which took $18.7 million from midnight showings (admittedly on its way to a record opening weekend) and it’s even worryingly near PROMETHEUS’ figure of $3.5 million which when you bear in mind is an R-Rated movie isn’t great.

So the figures look ok, but is ok really enough for Sony? With a rumoured budget pushing north of $200 million I’d guess not but hey, it’s not like they’ve already locked in a sequel is it…oh.

Sam is a bloody lovely lad born and raised in Bristol (he’s still there and can’t escape). Favourite films include THE LOST BOYS, DRIVE, FIGHT CLUB and COMMANDO, well pretty much any 1980s Arnie film you can throw his way…even RED SONJA. Sam once cancelled a Total Film subscription after they slagged off Teen Wolf. He resubscribed 2 days later.
