Netflix Hits The Big 1 Billion!

We’ve all seen the Netflix advertisements that have been appearing on our television screens of late but I wonder how many of us use their service? Quite a few it seems, as Netflix are reporting that – by the end of June 2012 – their viewing figures reached 1 billion hours!

CEO Reed Hastings has praised his Netflix content officer Ted Sarandos and has said that when new titles are added (such as David Fincher’s series HOUSE OF CARDS and Fox favourite ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT) they’ll ‘blow these records away’.

Since Netflix announced their landmark, the company jumped 6.2% up the market, with shares now costing $72.04. 1 billion hours is a record for the company, especially considering the competition from the likes of Amazon (and LoveFilm), other streaming websites…and their nemesis – illegal downloads. As long as they keep offering quality viewing, I’m sure they’ll hit an even bigger number by the end of 2012.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
