The Amazing Spider-Man Will Be First Of A Trilogy!

While we already knew the sequel to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN was already green-lit, well in advance of Tuesday’s release, we now have confirmation that Marc Webb’s reboot is the first part of a planned trilogy. The film, starring a terrific Andrew Garfield, has just broken TRANSFORMERS record for a Tuesday opening with $35 million. Below there are some spoilers so if you’ve yet to see the film beware!

The official Facebook page give this little titbit of just how much further the story of Peter Parker and his wall-crawling heroic alter-ego will go, in its current form now the problematic (rebooted) origin tale is out the way.

It’s finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie TRILOGY that will explore how our fave hero’s journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.

Producer Matt Tolmach also hinted in an interview that:

We knew that it was going to be more than one, and at the very least three. We’re going to let this movie tell us what the story is.

The emphasis as you can see, on the word TRILOGY. The post credit sequence certainly sets up the further adventures of Parker and his fathers connections with Oscorp, the company where his father worked and Norman Osborne founded. Osborne as all Spidey fans will know, reinvents himself as the evil Green Goblin. So will said Goblin be making an appearance in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, which is slated for a release 2nd May 2014? Director Marc Webb had this to say:-

There is a silhouette as Peter enters Oscorp on a display, which reads our founder, Norman Osborn. And there is a back-story which I will not reveal. We wanted to convey that there were more forces at work than you may have initially thought.

Rhys Ifans who portrayed conflicted villian Curt Conners aka The Lizard added:

Connors is sent to an asylum, a high-security asylum, as you would be if you threw police towers across the Brooklyn Bridge. And he’s visited by, shall we say, a representative from Oscorp. How he gets into that cell and how he leaves that cell without the guards knowing? We have yet to find out. But it’s not Norman Osborn!

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN was released on Tuesday and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Rhys Ifans, Sally Field and Martin Sheen. You can read our review here.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
