Channing Tatum To Star And Produce Evel Knievel Biopic

The roller-coaster life of motorcycle stuntman Evel Knievel is set for the silver screen. Columbia Pictures are currently in talks with Channing Tatum to headline as the iconic daredevil, with him also expected to take on a producing role. Knievel was an American hero during the 1960s-70s, with his jaw-dropping shows and record-breaking ratings on television. His career spanned 15 years and landed himself in the Guinness Book of Records with an astonishing (and scary) 433 broken bones. He also starred in his own movie, VIVA KNIEVEL, in 1971 and passed away in 2007.

Channing Tatum, the MAGIC MIKE and 21 JUMP STREET star, has a supporting role in another sports-themed biopic in soon-to-shoot FOXCATCHER. He’ll star opposite Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo in the tragic tale of Olympic wrestler David Schultz who was murdered by trainer John du Pont in 1996. Tatum will play Schultz’ brother Mark, with MONEYBALL and CAPOTE’s Bennett Miller slated to direct.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
