Biblical tales are blowing up Hollywood at the moment, what with Darren Aronofsky starting work on NOAH with Russell Crowe, and both Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg having Moses projects in the pipeline. And now it seems Big Willie Smith has jumped on the biblical bandwagon with reports he wants to tell the tale of battling brothers Cain and Abel. An interesting choice for his directorial debut.
THE REDEMPTION OF CAIN is the working title of the piece, which is currently under development with Sony. This news comes two years after reports that Smith was up for producing and staring in THE LEGEND OF CAIN, a similar idea but with…a vampiric twist? Hmmm. Maybe he’s missed the boat with that one after ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER re-imagined the early years of President Lincoln, with a lot more fangs than is probably historically accurate.
But before all this, however, he’ll be working on producing a remake of classic musical ANNIE, unsurprisingly starring his 25 year old daughter trapped in the body of a child, Willow Smith, written by Emma Thompson and music by Jay-Z. Which is all as upsetting as it is baffling.
