Russell’s American Bullshit Sees Renner Replace Bale

Oscar-winner and star of upcoming THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, Christian Bale, will not be re-teaming with THE FIGHTER director David O. Russell on AMERICAN BULLSHIT (a title that is expected to undergo a forced name change, maybe with ****?). The honour now falls to Oscar-nominee Jeremy Renner, a brilliant actor on the rise after acclaimed roles in Kathryn Bigelow’s war drama THE HURT LOCKER and Ben Affleck’s ace crime-thriller THE TOWN. He was also part of the team in blockbuster MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL and he’s about to flex his reflexes and muscles as the lead in the forthcoming action sequel/spin-off THE BOURNE LEGACY.

Renner is expected to play a determined FBI agent on the hunt for Bradley Cooper’s expert conman. The film will roll before cameras in February with Cooper reuniting with the THREE KING’S director after working on the upcoming drama SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK. Bale’s unavailability is due to his commitment on two Terrence Malick films that will shoot back-to-back.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
