Gangster Squad Scenes To Be Changed

In the wake of the tragic events in Colarado, THN first got wind that Warner Bros were deliberating just how to deal with the shocking details. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, Christopher Nolan’s concluding part of his epic Batman trilogy, was not the only film that became entwined in the aftermath of tragedy. The studio were quick to remove the trailer for Ruben Fleischer’s period-thriller GANGSTER SQUAD from prints of the Bat three-quel. This due to the fact it featured the now controversial scene of a group of mobsters firing through a cinema screen at the watching public.

Now we have word that the film, starring Josh Brolin, Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, will cut the scene altogether and will schedule re-shoots. Warner Bros feel the scene in now insensitive to those affected by the events and perhaps should be applauded for having the courage to think more about victims and their families than box-office bucks. There’s no doubt it will cost the studio a lot of time and money, not only that, but they will have to be quick to meet the US release date of 9th September.

GANGSTER SQUAD will arrive in UK cinemas 9th November and co-stars Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Pena.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
