He’s been a busy boy recently and he could get even busier, as it seems that Jeremy Renner is currently in talks to portray Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. Not looking to just portray action heroes, THE HURT LOCKER star is also adding a number of promising projects to his resume. THN recently confirmed he is set to test his acting chops in David O. Russell’s conman thriller AMERICAN BULLSHIT, opposite Bradley Cooper.
It has now emerged that Renner is the front runner to play controversial figure Assange, in the upcoming project that has director Bill Condon attached. Condon has been responsible for a number of acclaimed efforts like CHICAGO, GODS AND MONSTERS and DREAMGIRLS but has wasted the last few years on tripe like THE TWILIGHT SAGA’s final two offerings BREAKING DAWN PART 1 and 2.
The film will be based on two books that Dreamworks has acquired, entitled ‘Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website’ by Daniel Domscheit-Berg and ‘WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy,’ by David Leigh and Luke Harding. We’ll keep you posted if Renner and/or Condon are confirmed.
In the meantime, you’ll be able to catch THE TOWN Oscar-nominee as Aaron Cross in THE BOURNE LEGACY, that opens on 13th August.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
