Ex-stuntman Ric Roman Waugh is close to being hired to helm a film based on the DEEPWATER HORIZON disaster. The film is being produced by Summit Entertainment and Participant Media, with a screenplay written by Matthew Sand based on a New York Times article. Waugh has performed stunts on some pretty big films, including TOTAL RECALL (1990), HOOK (1991) and TRUE ROMANCE (1993). He also directed the surprisingly fantastic FELON (2008).
The film will recount the final hours of the crew on the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling rig, which exploded in April 2010 leading to the infamous BP oil spill. There may be a bit of a wait as Waugh is finishing his current film SNITCH, starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Susan Sarandon.
