Schwartzman, Wilson & Giamatti Are ‘Saving Mr. Banks’

The intriguing SAVING MR. BANKS looks to be the recipient of some eccentric casting, with new members joining the already-confirmed Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. The film will document the drama behind the making of Disney classic MARY POPPINS, with Hanks set to play the mouse house head-honcho Walt Disney, who needs to persuade Thompson’s author P. L. Travers, creator of the beloved magical nanny, to sell his company the rights to her beloved novel.

Joining both those Oscar-winning actors will be Jason Schwartzman as Richard Morton Sherman, legendary songwriter of many a classic ditty. Pig-Vomit himself, the great Paul Giamatti as Travers’ chauffeur and confidant, alongside newcomer Ruth Wilson, who will soon be seen in Gore Verbinski’s expensive western THE LONE RANGER.

SAVING MR. BANKS will be directed by THE BLIND SIDE’s John Lee Hancock with a script by Kelly Marcel. Expect the film in cinemas late next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
