If, like me, you started out as a big fan of graphic-novel-to-television adaptation THE WALKING DEAD – but ended up hiding behind the sofa – you may not want to read on. Details of the show’s future have been released, including a new threat: man.
Robert Kirkman, the genius behind the book series, has said that he’s ‘in denial’ when he sees Danai Gurira walk on to set. She plays Michonne, the sword-swinging lone-ranger character who’s introduced at the beginning of season three. Kirkman has said that ‘fans of the comics are going to love it’ and that Gurira ‘is great’.
Carrying on with that thread, David Alpert (THE WALKING DEAD’s executive producer) commented that Michonne is ‘a hot, kick-ass chick with a sword, so you’ve got to love her’. I think you should be more scared of her than anything! He also mentioned that they’re bringing in the brilliant English stage and screen actor David Morrissey as The Governor, a new enemy for the surviving group. As far as the whole prison setting goes, Alpert said that,
‘Normally when you think of a prison, you think it’s unpleasant. It’s a place you want to stay away from. It’s a drain on society. You really think about it in negative terms. In this world, it represents hope. It’s potential salvation — unless you’ve read the books.’
Very cryptic! But one of the biggest questions the fans want answered is: are there any new threats? Alpert concluded,
‘In the beginning there were lurkers and walkers and biters. In season two there was the herd. Now we’re bringing in man. Man is where we’re going next.’
THE WALKING DEAD season three is due for a US premiere from 14th October 2012.
