He may not have the big-budget or mass appeal of some of his comic book contemporaries, but Judge Dredd is still causing quite a stir amongst fanboys with his upcoming movie. This is due in no small part to the very positive reports from the preview screening at Comic-Con a few weeks back. Looking gritty, ultra-violent, and adopting the old ‘Die Hard Formula’ (hero up against villains trapped in a insert location here), DREDD could be a sleeper hit of 2012. At the very least, let’s hope it erases the bitter memory of Sylvester Stallone’s piss-poor 1995 effort.

DREDD 3D is directed by Pete Travis and stars Karl Urban, Lena Headey, and Olivia Thirlby. It arrives in UK cinemas 7th September.
