Marvel & ABC To Produce Avengers Tie-In?

The thing Marvel Studios has done so brilliantly is to replicate on-screen its expanded comics universe. Rather than focus on one lone hero, Marvel has delivered several, placing them within the same reality, walking in and out of each others’ movies and finally coming together for Joss Whedon’s superhero smackdown, AVENGERS ASSEMBLE. Though some smirked when the studio first revealed these plans back in 2007, they’ve pulled it off – and so they should, Marvel has been succeeding at the exact same thing in the pages of their comics for decades.

Rumours have just surfaced that the studio is keen to extend its on-screen universe even further, this time onto television, as it’s reportedly in talks with ABC to produce a series connected to AVENGERS ASSEMBLE. Whilst it’s unlikely any of the major players will appear, it will exist in the same story-world, and may be an opportunity for some less-known but interesting comics characters to appear. At this stage it’s all speculation as there a no concrete details.

What impact this will have on ABC’s planned HULK series remains a mystery. The project – led by monster maestro Guillermo del Toro – is apparently unconnected to the Marvel Studios films. Will the network run two unconnected Marvel series? Both of which include the Incredible Hulk to some degree? Or will they come together somehow…?
