Although initially written-off by some critics, Cameron Crowe’s most recent film endeavor, WE BOUGHT A ZOO, was very successful, grossing around $120 million. So many will be wondering what he’s going to do now. It seems that he’s jumped on the Emma Stone bandwagon and has cast her in his next project, DEEP TIKI.
Crowe has apparently had DEEP TIKI in the works since 2008 and it was originally going to star Ben Stiller and Reese Witherspoon. However, due to scheduling issues the film was continually pushed back into pre-production. Now it seems that Crowe is resurrecting his plans and has cast Stone in the female lead role. When the script was originally in production back in 2008, reports claimed that the film would focus on a military weapons consultant who is sent away to a tiny Hawaiian island to keep an eye on a spy satellite launch. With lots of time on his hands (and no friends), our main character starts to realize the life he left behind and the hurt he caused to others. In the four years since, this narrative may very well of changed.
No reports as of yet who will star as Stone’s counterpart, but their characters will no doubt be in some sort of complicated relationship (maybe father/daughter, maybe boyfriend/girlfriend). Personally, I’m a huge fan of Crowe’s ALMOST FAMOUS (and have a massive girl-crush on Emma) so if he somehow merges the two, I’ll be very happy.
DEEP TIKI is due to start shooting from early next year.
