Yesterday it was reported that Marvel and Fox may be striking a deal in order for Fox to extend the rights on DAREDEVIL. Fox are now denying any such deal. DAREDEVIL will reportedly revert back to Marvel in October unless Fox start production before then. Even though Joe Carnahan is reportedly set to direct it seems unlikely that DAREDEVIL will go into production anytime this year. Yesterday’s rumour suggested that Marvel would give Fox an extension on the rights for characters from the FANTASTIC FOUR universe, such as Silver Surfer and Galactus.
This all seems rather strange for Fox to come out and vehemently deny such rumours. We see rumours revolving around super-hero franchises almost everyday and studios rarely have anything to say about them. Perhaps Fox are just playing hardball and don’t really care about losing Daredevil. Marvel have such a busy few years ahead of them that it’s doubtful they’d be able to squeeze Daredevil into the mix for quite some time. What they could do is perhaps sell off some of the side characters. I’m sure Sony would be interested in buying the rights to The Kingpin as he would not only make an excellent Spider-Man villain, but could take their franchise in a whole new direction.
