LEGO Turns 80, Celebrates With Plastic Hobbits

2012 marks the 80th anniversary of the LEGO company, and to celebrate we have a pair of rather fantastic videos for you to check out below.

With LEGO recently launching a wave of products based on legendary film series THE LORD OF THE RINGS, you might have heard that there’s also the obligatory videogame tie-in on the way in October – and we’ve got a brand new trailer for that game, complete with typical LEGO humour and what sounds like Sir Ian McKellen narrating. Have yourself a watch:

The LEGO game series now covers everything from STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES to PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN and BATMAN. What’s left, you ask? Well, I doubt we’ll be seeing LEGO PULP FICTION any time soon…

Anyway, the second video is a 17-minute short film that details the journey of company founder Ole Kirk Christiansen from the perspective of current owner and grandson Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen. It’s a nifty little promo piece that gives no clues as to who made the film for LEGO, but the animation is strikingly similar to that of Pixar’s. Check it out below:

(And no, we don’t know why they didn’t use LEGO figures for it either.)

LEGO: THE LORD OF THE RINGS is due for release on 26th October 2012 on all major platforms. And don’t forget upcoming Phil Lord- and Chris Miller-directed animated feature film LEGO: THE PIECE OF RESISTANCE, building its way onto screens in 2014!

Chris started life by almost drowning in a lake, which pretty much sums up how things have gone so far. He recently graduated in Journalism from City University and is actually a journalist and everything now (currently working as Sports Editor at The News Hub). You can find him on Twitter under the ingenious moniker of @chriswharfe.
