Talk of a DUMB & DUMBER sequel has been doing the rounds for years, and just lately, star Jim Carrey has been to-ing and fro-ing over the project. But according to reports, writer-directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly say the project is all systems go, with both Carrey and co-star Jeff Daniels back on board:
‘We always wanted to get the two original guys Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back together and see what they’re up to. Now it’s almost 20 years after the original and the other guys are in a point in their career where they had so much fun the first time that they’re willing to do it. We will make this movie.’
That all sounds pretty definite, and word is the brothers are hoping to beging shooting later this year, with the script already written. And whilst DUMB & DUMBER is best known for its puerile gags rather than clever plotting, there has been a certain amount of interest regarding the story of the sequel, title DUMB & DUMBER TO. At last, the Farrellys have revealed some details of the script:
I can tell you that there is no growth out of either one of them and it’s 20 years later. What is funny about the original is that they’re grown men who are complete losers and when the studio came to us about a sequel, we were like, ‘Loads of kids are losers and they’re dumb.’ We didn’t see any value in the sequel so we backed out of it, but now these guys are in regular life and they’re still basically children at heart. The story revolves around the fact that one of them may have sired a child. They want to go and find the child because he’s having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys.
The thought of either Harry Dunne or Llyod Christmas fathering a child quite frankly beggars belief, but THN is keen to see the movie happen regardless. After all, there just aren’t enough headless budgies in movies these days.

Excellent! I watched Jim Carrey’s INSIDE THE ACTOR’S STUDIO recently (which I highly recommend – the whole video is on youtube), and he said that Dustin Hoffman once told him the friendship between Harry and Lloyd is one of the most realistic he has ever seen on-screen. What a compliment!
