Trailer For Tsunami Disaster Flick ‘The Impossible’

THE IMPOSSIBLE has released a full trailer. It’s the story of a family separated during the 2004 tsunami. Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts play a married couple, who along with their three sons, find themselves lost in a strange land in the aftermath of a natural disaster. It’s the first film from director Juan Antonio Bayona since his fantastic 2007 horror THE ORPHANAGE.

I found this trailer to be lacking in almost all departments. I didn’t feel the sheer terror of the tsunami, which should be sending chills down my spine and everything after that seemed a bit cheesy and cliche with the whole ‘Nothing is stronger than the human spirit’ and McGregor’s dialogue with his sons. Once it kicked in with a cover of U2’s ‘One’ I was just hoping it would end. I’m also quite sure that the trailer ruins the end. If this is a fair representation of the trailer then I’ll be skipping this one, which is a shame because THE ORPHANAGE was such a great film.

THE IMPOSSIBLE is released 4th January 2013. It stars Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.

I had a friend who was literally caught up in the middle of this, so this resonates with me completely.

I think you’ve mis-judged this one a little, Luke. This stuff happened, it’s obviously not the Orphanage but I think it needs to be taken with a little compassion.

    Just sayin’, fella!
