Many of you probably believe that the channel SyFy are only responsible for cheesy creature features involving giant animals. But as brilliant as they are you may have failed to notice their increasing line-up of genuinely fantastic horror/science-fiction/fantasy shows. They’ve already given us A TOWN CALLED EUREKA, WAREHOUSE 13, and ALPHAS which all take place in the same universe, as well as SANCTUARY and LOST GIRL.
Well now they’re adding yet another great show to their line-up with the Canadian science-fiction thriller CONTINUUM. The press release describes the show as follow:
Continuum stars RACHEL NICHOLS (Criminal Minds, Alias) as Kiera Cameron,
a cop from the future who finds herself trapped in the present day.
When a group of fanatical terrorists escape their planned execution in
the year 2077, they vault back in time to 2012 sweeping dedicated City
Protective Services officer, Kiera, along with them. Desperate to get
back to her husband and son in 2012, Kiera concentrates on bringing down
the terrorists before they can change the course of history forever.
The first season is made up of 10 one hour long episodes and has already been a commercial success in Canada on Showtime, where it debuted as their highest rated single episode ever. It’s also received positive fan reaction.
Adam Collings, Channel Director, Syfy UK, said:
With gripping story-telling, high production values and a terrific
cast, Continuum has the hallmark of a landmark science fiction series.
It combines classic genre themes of dystopian futures and the space-time
continuum, with universal themes questioning the nature of good and
evil. At its core it’s also the story of a strong-minded heroine’s fight
for her future and her family.
The show looks just as great as any show on SyFy, but I am saying that as a big old SyFy nerd face. Still, with creative programming like this the only reason to even change the channel from SyFy is to watch DOCTOR WHO.
CONTINUUM launches on SyFy on 27th September in the UK. It stars Rachel Nichols, Victor Webster, Erik Knudsen, and Stephen Lobo.
