Release Date Revealed For Dustin Hoffman’s ‘Quartet’

It has been announced that Dustin Hoffman’s much awaited directorial debut is to hit UK cinemas from 1st January 2013.

QUARTET, based on the Sir Ronald Harwood-written play of the same name, features Billy Connolly (ABSOLUTION), Tom Courtenay (DOCTOR ZHIVAGO), Pauline Collins (SHIRLEY VALENTINE) and Maggie Smith (HARRY POTTER) as four retired opera singers. As Jean (Smith) joins her former musical colleagues at their retirement home, the quartet come to blows as old rivalries and grudges come to light – especially as Jean and Reggie (Courtenay) were formally husband and wife. Bringing forward a new definition to ‘old age’ and showing you can grow old with hope, QUARTET is sure to start off 2013 with a bang! Co-stars include the brilliant Micheal Gambon (HARRY POTTER) and Sheridan Smith (LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL).

This is Hoffman’s first time behind the camera, but with the wealth of experience he has garnered over the years (and the fact that between himself and his cast, they have acquired 6 Oscar awards), QUARTET is bound to be good.

QUARTET will premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival on 9th September. Be sure to book your tickets early for its January 2013 release.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
