She Wouldn’t Hurt A Fly: Vera Farmiga Cast As Norma Bates In Psycho Prequel Series

Hitchcock is all the rage these days. With not one, but two biopics coming out looking at different times in his life and now a Psycho prequel TV series titled THE BATES MOTEL, we just can’t get enough of old Hitchy. Vera Farmiga has been cast as Norman Bates’ mother, Norma Bates, in this 10 episode series that will look at the relationship between the two. The series was originally conceived as a mini-series it was worked into a full series by LOST showrunner Carlton Chuse and PARENTHOOD’s Kerry Ehrin. Speaking of Farmiga, Cuse had this to say:

She is a phenomenal talent who has demonstrated incredible range and intelligence in a number of landmark film roles, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her join our project.

I like the idea of this show. It sounds much more interesting than the HANNIBAL series, but do we really need it? We can easily interpret Norman’s relationship with his mother through his own actions. They kind of become one person which is the whole point. However, the underated sequels to Psycho means that it is a world that can be explored.

BATES MOTEL is looking to air in 2013.
