Jon Turteltaub To Direct Film About Olympic Swimmer Raised By Whales

If there’s something strange about an Olympic story, who you gonna call? Jon Turteltaub. That’s right, the man behind COOL RUNNINGS (1993) is now taking a pop at the summer Olympics with the tale of a young boy that winds up overboard and is raised by whales. He later becomes an Olympic world champion. Sounds nice. The film has languished around Hollywood for over a decade but seems to have been given new life with the success of this year’s Olympics and the footage of LIFE OF PI. The film is called BEACHED and is entirely fictional. Can you imagine how wrinkly a person would be if they were truly raised by whales?

Ted Griffin, the writer of OCEAN’S ELEVEN (2001) and TOWER HEIST, wrote the original script back in 1997. Since then it has undergone a number of tweaks with each new team that has come aboard. The latest rewrite was by Jordan Roberts, the man who wrote the US narration of MARCH OF THE PENGUINS (2005).

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
