First Trailer For The Animated ‘Dorothy Of Oz’

Toto, we’re not live action anymore! 73 years since she arrived back in 1939, Dorothy Gale is set to return to Oz in the imaginatively titled and pointless animated sequel DOROTHY OF OZ. The CGI project is an adaptation of the book and features the voices of Kelsey Grammer, Dan Akyroyd, Patrick Stewart, and ‘GLEE’s Lea Michele’. Note the trailer shoehorning GLEE in there for the tweens as nobody else will be watching this.

Dorothy is brought back to Oz by The Jester — quite blatantly a watered down, child friendly Joker — who turns people into puppets or something? The colours are stunning, but there’s little else here to whet the appetite. Kids will love the fantasy land, and I quite enjoyed the marshmellow man who looks like a Canadian from SOUTH PARK, but for an animated children’s movie there are very little jokes here.

Directed by Dan St. Pierre and Will Finn, DOROTHY OF OZ was written by Adam Balsam (who gave us one episode of MURPHY BROWN in 1997) and Barry Glasser. It is expected to be released in cinemas at some point in 2013.

Well even though this particular writer seems apathetic about the project, I think it looks amazing! We could use more family friendly movies with a lot of heart, not to mention Lea Michele is an exceptional talent…I’ll definitely be taking the family to see this movie 🙂

Why so sarcastic and negative? You sound as if you enjoy ripping things for sport. Perhaps you would be more excited writing about the latest porn movies?

I think it looks cheap. Straight to DVD fare that’s somehow accidentally ended up in the cinema. Still, doesn’t look as bad as Sammy’s Great Escape!
